A group of Form 5 children took part in a Design and Technology (DT) trip to Oakham School to experience their state of the art facilities, including their workshop tools and machinery, electronics and their CAD software. The group, led by Head of DT Miss Kohler, alongside Oakham DT staff, had the opportunity to design and create their own iPod dock.
The children were able to put their existing DT skills into practice and had the chance to work on soldering tasks and Computer Aided Design as well as some 3D printing. One of the group explained, “It was really interesting getting to work in a different DT department and, one of the best parts of the day was seeing the end products on display. We came away with so many new skills and our own designs, which included moustaches, faces, glasses and sea life.”
Miss Kohler thought the day provided “a great opportunity for ŷ’s pupils to use highly advanced Senior School level equipment in a small group situation.”
