The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's biggest fundraising event, where the charity asks people across the UK to hold a coffee morning and raise money for people living with cancer. In 2019 the charity’s coffee mornings raised nearly £27.5 million. The Å·ÃÀ×ÔÅÄ’s College School PA’s Macmillan Coffee Morning took place virtually this year due to current circumstances and families were encouraged to donate £3 or more for each entry. Instead of being a coffee 'morning', eager bakers were asked to upload photos of their bakes to a padlet throughout the week as part of a Virtual Cake Bake competition, judged by the School's own Catering Manager, Mr Richard Goldby.
There were 25 delicious entries for the bake off and, after much deliberation from judge Mr Goldby, the winners were announced with Kangqi Gong (Form 4) winning at Senior House with his Apple Toffee Cake. Mr Goldby explained, 'Kangqi’s choice of cake was very seasonal and a great combination of ingredients. With the colder days now upon us the thought of toffee apple coupled with a cake was a mouth-watering prospect.' At Byron House, Effie Thomson's Twit Twoooo Cupcakes (Form 2) stole the show. Our judge said, 'These delightful looking cupcakes captured the fun side of the bake off with lots of thought, care and time having gone into the decoration. I’m sure they tasted as good as they looked! The task of judging was a very difficult one indeed with all the entries worthy of a first place, every cake looked delicious in its own right but sadly there could only be two winners. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this very worthwhile charitable cause.'
PA Chair, Mrs Nicole Holmes, commented, 'A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Parent Associations’ Macmillan virtual coffee morning and bake off. We are delighted to announce that we have raised £640 for Macmillan so thank you to all who donated, baked, enjoyed eating and drank coffee!' If you would still like to donate please follow the link:
