Members of our Charities and Community Links Committee pulled out all the stops to organise an Easter Fair ‘Egg-stravaganza’ at Byron House. An impressive £207.70 was raised for our chosen termly charities, Bridges to Belarus () and Humanitas (). Homemade cakes were bought in abundance and every stall generated a buzz of activity with the Forest Garden providing an outdoor space for the children to go to after visiting the Fair.
The children in the Charities Committee created and ran the stalls for the rest of the Byron House children and all the games and cakes cost 20p. The Committee members worked hard in the run up to the Fair to create posters to publicise their activities such as old-time favourites ‘hook a duck, ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ and the ‘lucky dip’. The Headmaster, Mr Chippington, also popped in to have a guess at how many chocolate eggs were in the jar! As well as cakes for sale, the children were able to browse and buy second hand books.
One Byron House child said, “We all really look forward to the Easter Fair and everyone is so excited to have a go at all the stalls and to see what can have been made. And it all goes to charity too!”.
