Parents' Association Charity Fun Day

Parents’ Association events have raised almost £12,500 for charity this year. This term’s Fun Day raised £1300 for the Street Child World Cup charity. The Fun Day was in its second year, incorporating the well-loved Fun Run and was designed for all ages to have an action-packed afternoon of sport and play with ŷ’s families, friends and staff.

The weather this year could not have been more perfect, adding to the carnival atmosphere. There was once again a spectacular cake stall, which included a bake-off judged by the new teashop in Cambridge, Afternoon Tease. The day was very much parent-driven, as many volunteers provided the manpower needed to run the games, bouncy castles, sumo wrestling, Welly-Wanging and other stalls that made for, what several people described as, a truly proper, old-fashioned British fete. One of the many highlights was the ‘Even More Fun Run’, a short race where children and parents really did crawl or do other extremely silly behaviours to get them around the track. The cake stall was unsurprisingly a real hit and exhibited some truly impressive baking by parents and children alike, while the warm sunshine ensured the ice-cream stall had a permanent queue.

One happy Fun Day supporter said, “I loved soaking my friends in the stocks and bouncing on all the inflatables.” PA Chairperson, Mr Hughes commented, “It was a fantastic day, with amazing sunshine. The runners did brilliantly in the heat and everyone enjoyed the stalls and activities. Raising a good sum of money for Street Child World Cup was the icing on the cake.”
